SMA & 89.3 The Current present THE ENGLISH BEAT with a pre-show DJ set by Transmission‘s Jake Rudh!

About The English Beat:
In 1979, The Beat burst onto the vibrant music scene of industrial Birmingham, England, amidst a backdrop of social, political, and musical turmoil. Within this maelstrom, The Beat sought to bring a soothing presence with their straightforward message of love and unity, set to an irresistible dance beat.

Their commitment to inclusivity was evident both in their diverse lineup and their eclectic musical influences. Seamlessly traversing the realms of soul, reggae, pop, and punk, the band crafted an infectious dance rhythm that quickly propelled them to overnight stardom. They emerged as one of the most renowned and influential acts within the British Two Tone Ska movement.

Dave Wakeling, a consummate showman, has tirelessly upheld The Beat’s legacy. Under the moniker of The English Beat, Dave continues to traverse the globe, supported by an exceptional all-star ska backing band. Together, they deliver a captivating performance featuring not only The Beat’s classics but also selections from General Public and his own new compositions.
