Schell’s Brewery

Scott Hislop is the Senior Distributor Sales Manager for Schell’s Brewing—a long-time sponsor of SMA’s Live at the Hilde series. We asked Scott a few questions about his experience with this legendary company and what he enjoys most about connecting with the community.
SMA: Schell’s is such a beloved part of the fabric of Minnesota’s beer community dating back more than 160 years and, on a national scale, has the distinction of being the country’s second largest family-owned brewery. What do you think in one of the biggest keys to the success of Schell’s Brewing?

Scott: Being Minnesota’s largest and longest operating brewery comes with challenges like every company endures and our brewery has seen a lot in the last 164 years. The biggest key to our success is having a dedicated team in all departments that create a culture of family that works together to make great beers that consumers enjoy while supporting the communities where our beer can be found.

SMA: Is there a launch or event coming up before the end of the year that you are particularly excited about?

Scott: We have lots of exciting things coming up starting with our annual Oktoberfest party at the brewery on Saturday, October 12th. It’s a great opportunity for an authentic experience similar to what you would find in Munich, Germany. We are also excited about the launch of our NEW beer—”Schell’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter”! It’s as delicious as it sounds being a full-bodied Porter with great notes of chocolate and caramel with subtle peanut butter flavor that compliments the chocolate. This is a must try and you can find it in stores now as it was just released last week.

SMA: Schell’s has a great tradition of partnering and supporting live music events in Minnesota, including Live at the Hilde and the Schell’s Stage at the Minnesota State Fair. What is one of the most fun parts of these partnerships?

Scott: It is great having long-term partnerships like we have with Live at the Hilde and Sue McLean. The fun part for me is the day of the event and watching concert goers enjoy our beer while watching one of their favorite music acts, creating that everlasting memory.
