With their latest album, Get Yourself Outside, Colorado-based quintet Yonder Mountain String Band continues to solidify their place as not only a pioneering jam-grass act, but also one of the most innovative groups in live music —something the group has proudly held high for the better part of a quarter-century.
From selling out Red Rocks Amphitheatre at a time that was unheard of for string acts, to performing festivals like Bonnaroo, Yonder Mountain was the initial spark in an acoustic inferno decades ago that endures headlong into the 21st century—one burning brightly in an ongoing movement that is jam-grass.
Blending virtuosic instrumental acrobatics with riveting lyrical craftsmanship, The Lil Smokies have earned a reputation as one of the most electrifying acts in modern American roots music thanks to their exhilarating live show and critically acclaimed studio output. Since forming on the streets of Missoula, Montana, where the group got its start busking back in 2009, the band has performed everywhere from Red Rocks to The Rialto and captivated festival audiences at Telluride, High Sierra, LOCKN’, Freshgrass, FloydFest, and countless more. Their latest album, 2020’s Tornillo, showcases the hard touring five-piece at its most adventurous, teaming up with producer Bill Reynolds (The Avett Brothers, Band Of Horses) for a genre-bending joyride from the hills of Laurel Canyon to the wide-open deserts of West Texas.
The Lil Smokies are:
Andy Dunnigan – Dobro, Vocals
Matthew Rieger – Guitar, Vocals
Jake Simpson – Fiddle, Vocals
Jean-Luc Davis – Upright Bass
Caleb Dostal – Banjo
About the Canterbury Park Concert Series
Yonder Mountain String Band is the seventh show in the joint Canterbury Park Concert Series – an effort between SMA and Canterbury Park, returning for its second year! In 2021, Canterbury Park added to its stable of entertainment options a series of outdoor concerts featuring nationally-known artists performing in an intimate outdoor trackside setting. The Canterbury Park Concert Series returns in 2022 with eight dates featuring a variety of genres beginning Friday, July 29.
“The positive response from guests attending last year’s inaugural concert series was tremendous,” said Deb Schaber, Director of Entertainment for Canterbury Park. “Our venue provides guests an opportunity to experience great outdoor music in a unique setting that offers comfortable seating, outstanding sightlines and acoustics, and close proximity to the stage.”
The concert series will feature a blend of sounds and styles, including long-standing national acts and new artists.
Parking is free adjacent to the grandstand.
